Position Overview: The primary focus of this position will be to teach Snapology programs. Instructors are asked to promote creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills while educating students on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) concepts. Programs are conducted for children ages 3-14, although not all instructors might be required to teach all age groups. This role requires internal collaboration and communication with Snapology leadership as well as representing the Snapology organization to parents & children with a high degree of professionalism. The role would also entail facilitating exciting theme-based and technical birthday parties.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Lead groups of up to 24 students through curriculum-guided activities.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Manage student behaviour in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of Snapology.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Adequately prepare for each program by reading curriculum, watching training videos and/or participating in face-to-face training sessions.
  • Handle inquiries from parents regarding Snapology programs.
  • Encourage students & parents to enroll students in future Snapology programs.
  • Participate in periodic Snapology training & staff meetings as required

Internship Requirement/Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • First Aid, CPR training, Criminal and Child Clearances is required
  • 2 or more years of experience working with children in a classroom or camp environment
  • Education degree or teaching experience recommended, teachers pursuing a degree in education will also be considered for this position
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
  • Adaptive: Flexible and open to evolving situations and projects.
  • Experience working with children in a classroom or camp environment
  • Education degree or degree in a STEM field
  • Own a car/insurance and valid drivers license to be able to travel to different partner locations for classes
  • Must be able to bring materials back and forth to classes when needed and must be able to lift 30+ pounds at a time

Programs Available to Teach: 

  • After-school and/or evening Classes (August – May): 1-2 hours in length and occur between 2:30pm–5:00pm Monday-Friday
  • Evening Classes: 1-2 hours in length and occur between 5:00pm–9:00pm Monday-Friday
  • Offsite Events: 1-4 hours hours in length and occur between 9:00am-8:00pm
  • Weekend Workshops: 2-4 hours in length and occur on Friday, Saturday or Sunday
  • Summer Camps (June – August): 1.5-7 hours in length (typically 3 hours per day) and occur between 9am–4pm Monday-Friday
  • Other Camps & Workshops (Holiday Break, Spring Break, In-Service Days): 1.5-7 hours in length (typically 3 hours per day) and occur between 9am–4pm Monday-Friday
  • Birthday Parties: 2 hours in length and occur on Friday, Saturday or Sunday
  • Special Events: 1-8 hours in length and occur anytime

Snapology of Glen Allen

At Snapology, we teach children in a fun and inclusive environment using LEGO® bricks and other STEM materials. Programs are conducted for children ages 3-14.
