Position Overview: Explore More Discovery Museum is seeking enthusiastic and skilled interns to join Maker City, an innovative makerspace designed for youth ages 8+. This internship offers a dynamic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a creative, educational environment while sharing your expertise with young makers.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Supervise Maker City during open lab hours, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
- Assist visitors with tools, materials, and project development.
- Maintain lab cleanliness and ensure equipment is in good working order.
- Train young makers on a variety of tools and techniques.
- Track inventory, prepare activity stations, and propose new maker activities.
- Serve as an ambassador for creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning.
- Assist or lead workshops and trainings in specialized skill areas.
Who we are looking for:
We welcome applicants with experience in one or more of the following areas
- Digital Fabrication: Laser cutting, vinyl cutting.
- Design & Arts: Graphic design, fine arts (painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.), sewing, and fabric arts.
- STEM & Technology: Web design, videography, photo editing.
- Hands-On Making: Woodworking, crafting, prototyping.
Ideal candidates should be:
- Passionate about making and hands-on learning
- Comfortable working with youth ages 8+
- Reliable, proactive, and able to work well in a collaborative environment
Explore More Discovery Museum
Explore More Discovery Museum is a non-profit children’s museum in Harrisonburg, VA, offering hands-on, interactive exhibits that spark curiosity and creativity in young learners. Focused on experiential learning, the museum provides educational play spaces like a science lab, maker zone, and play market, encouraging exploration and imagination for children and families across the Shenandoah Valley.
