Position Overview: The intern will work directly under the guidance of a licensed professional therapist, receiving personalized mentorship, clinical supervision, and professional development support throughout the internship.
We are looking for someone who brings a passion for maternal mental health and a willingness to learn. The ideal candidate will offer art therapy-based interventions and compassionate support to women across all stages of their perinatal journey.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):
- Support the planning and facilitation of individual and group art therapy sessions under supervision
- Under Supervision, facilitate wellness workshops that incorporate counselling strategies and art therapy techniques to promote emotional wellness and resilience
- Help design creative art-based interventions that support emotional expression, healing, and empowerment for perinatal and maternal clients
- Support the integration of faith-based values and approaches when working with clients who desire spiritually informed care
- Prepare art materials and session outlines for clinical activities, workshops, and wellness activities
- Write educational and therapy-focused blog posts
- Assist with creating meaningful social media content related to maternal mental health, art therapy, and emotional wellness
- Assist with administrative and clinical documentation related to therapy services
- Attend regular supervision, team meetings, and training opportunities
- Support the development and creation of digital wellness products (e.g., mindfulness journals and therapy worksheets)
- Contribute to a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for clients and team members
What We’re Looking For (Requirements):
- A current master’s level student in Art Therapy Intern or a recent graduate (within 2 years)
- Passionate about maternal mental health and community care
- Duration: May through August 2025, with opportunity to extend ongoing internship or part-time role
- Familiar with trauma-informed care, culturally sensitive practices, and the impact of cultural biases on mental health and healing
- Interest or experience in developing therapeutic digital products (helpful but not required — we’ll mentor you!)
- Ability to travel occasionally for in-person sessions/events in Virginia, D.C., or Maryland
- Excellent communication, creative planning, and organizational skills
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a hybrid structure
- Demonstrates a self-motivated, creative, and proactive approach, with a strong commitment to continuous learning and growth
Preferred:
- Previous experience working with women, families, or perinatal populations
- Familiarity with trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices
