Position Overview: This internship provides structured training for individuals looking to build a career in community-based senior fitness instruction. Under the guidance of certified instructors, you’ll assist in leading classes such as Silver Sneakers, Renew Active, and Silver & Fit, learning how to adapt routines for varying fitness levels and health needs. Interns will complete educational modules, actively participate in class setup and instruction, and be eligible for a Group Fitness Instructor certification upon program completion.
Program Highlights:
- Mentorship and guided experience with certified group exercise leaders.
- Active teaching practice in low-cost or free community fitness classes.
- Weekly check-ins and training on aging-specific class design.
- Nationally recognized group fitness certification provided upon completion
Intern Responsibilities (Under Supervision):
- Assist with set-up, breakdown, and equipment management for classes.
- Shadow and gradually lead portions of group fitness sessions.
- Learn to cue, modify, and demonstrate exercises for older adults.
- Monitor participants for safety and provide individual encouragement.
- Promote class attendance and engage with community members.
- Collect attendance and feedback to help measure class success.
- Support class documentation and communication with partner sites.
- Uphold high standards for safety, professionalism, and inclusion
Ideal Candidate:
- Aspiring group fitness instructor or current student in exercise science, kinesiology, recreation, or gerontology.
- Positive, enthusiastic, and comfortable leading or speaking in front of groups.
- Passionate about senior health, wellness, and community engagement.
- Reliable and punctual with access to transportation.
- CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain during internship)
Training Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the internship, trainees will:
- Be eligible to earn a Senior Group Fitness certification.
- Gain real-world experience with diverse senior populations.
- Be considered for paid instructor opportunities with BeneFit Personal Training’s growing outreach program

Their certified trainers focus on enhancing mobility, strength, and overall wellness, bringing all necessary equipment directly to clients’ homes.
