Description: The social media & Marketing Intern will lead digital marketing efforts for History Walks FXBG, creating and managing content across platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. The role includes capturing tour content, coordinating local promotions, and supporting business development initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with social media marketing, with emphasis on:
    • Craft and manage content for Facebook and Instagram.
    • Support the launch and growth of a TikTok account for History Walks FXBG.
    • Participate in developing and executing campaigns with clear timelines and goals.
    • Contribute to the overall social media content calendar and strategy.
  • Capture and help edit photos and videos during tours (primarily Friday and Saturday evenings) for use in reels, posts, and stories.
  • Work with guidance to coordinate marketing efforts with local hotels, tourism departments, and the Chamber of Commerce.
  • Assist in developing marketing plans targeting hotels in Fredericksburg and nearby regions.
  • Support business development through partnerships and cross-promotions.

Internship Requirement/Qualifications:

Skills & Attributes: 

  • Basic understanding of marketing and business principles.
  • Strong writing skills for creating blog posts, press releases, web content, and email campaigns.
  • Ability to assist with event coordination, including themed tours and special promotions.
  • Genuine interest in local history and tourism.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Professional demeanour and ability to represent History Walks FXBG at events and meetings.

Schedule Availability:

  • Available for evening hours (6:00 PM–10:00 PM) and weekend hours when tours are
  • most active (especially Friday and Saturday evenings).
  • Base commitment of about 10 hours per week, with potential to increase during seasonal
  • or promotional periods.
  • While content capture must be in-person, much of the editing, posting, and planning can
  • be done remotely.

Location & Affiliation

  • Must be local to Fredericksburg, preferably a student at the University of Mary Washington or Germanna Community College.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Have hands-on experience running social media campaigns from concept to execution.
  • Understand tourism marketing strategies and partnership outreach.
  • Build a portfolio of creative content and campaign results.
  • Develop professional communication skills through real-world collaboration.

History Walks FXBG is a locally owned tour company based in Fredericksburg, VA, offering engaging, historically themed walking tours that highlight the city’s rich past. The business focuses on educational and entertaining experiences for both tourists and locals.
